SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 5 June - 31 July 2026

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? This is a free challenge, open to all Bateman Library members. Simply sign up for the appropriate age group!

• Squadron Reading Challenge - Calling all Airmen! Represent your squadron, out-read the competition, and help your team claim the trophy and bragging rights, while providing an opportunity for EPR bullets! Register your Squadron by e-mailing ashley.jellison@us.af.mil or contact your Squadron POC (list updated weekly) and out-read the competition to win the trophy and a prize!

• Pre-K (0-4) Parents also get credit for reading to their children!

• Children (5-12)

• Teens (13-17)

• Adults (18+)

REGISTRATION

1.  CLICK HERE to sign up anytime throughout the summer reading challenge. Pre-registration opens 5 June.

2. Begin logging your minutes! (Due to limited prizes, we are unfortunately unable to offer free T-shirts during registration this year).

Get the FREE BEANSTACK TRACKER app! It has a timer to track your reading and you can add a book or audiobook by scanning the ISBN. This will make logging much easier! How to use the app.

READING REWARDS

• Pre-K, Kids, Teen, & Adults: Earn a raffle ticket for every 30 minutes read! Redeem them for rewards at the Prize Counter. DUE TO LIMITED PRIZES

  JUNE 15 - JULY 6: CAN REDEEM MAX 50 TICKETS PER WEEK

  JULY 7-31: CAN REDEEM UP TO 50 TICKETS PER DAY

• Top Readers Rewards: Additional rewards for reading the most minutes!

WHAT DO I DO?

1. After you register, READ, READ, READ & LISTEN! All reading and logging must be done between 5 June & 30 July 2026.

2. Log your reading minutes online using Beanstack to earn virtual badges & real world rewards.

3. We will have the rewards available for pick up throughout the program.

4. Read throughout the 8-week challenge to earn prizes! Compete for one of the coveted Top Reader rewards by reading more than others in your age group!

NOTE: “Minutes” are the DoD requirement.

WHY READ IN SUMMER? Young people experience learning losses when they don’t engage in educational activities during the summer. Research spanning 100 years shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer. Libraries are part of the solution!
