Get ready for blast-off this April at Bateman Library! We're celebrating Month of the Military Child with the launch of our very own Innovation Lab Jr!

This engaging and tactile space is like a mini-museum where kids can dive into STEAM through hands-on fun!  Get ready to explore the wonders of gravity on our magnetic wall with gears & ramps, light up your creativity with pixel peg light tables, and so much more!

Teens, gear up! We've got epic new game zones featuring a touch-screen table, VR headsets, and PS5 open play.

Design a READ Poster Contest (Apr 1-30)

Design your own READ poster and enter for a chance for your design to be printed and displayed in the Bateman Library!

We will choose one winner from each of the four age groups: K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-12th, Adults / Squadrons. To submit your poster, include with the artist’s name, grade, and contact phone number and either drop off at the front desk during opening hours or email you submission to langleyafblibrary@gmail.com.

Posters must 22”x28” (the size of an average poster board) and portrait layout. Participants will photograph their work and e-mail to langleyafblibrary@gmail.com.

Get creative! Create your photos with digital art, mixed media, drawings, you name it! Need help with your design? Visit the American Library Association’s Design Studio: https://alastore.ala.org/read-design-studio.

Submissions must not contain obscenity, explicit sexual material, nudity, profanity, graphic violence, calls or incitement to violence, commercial solicitation or commercial promotion. Submissions must conform to local law and must not contain content or images that could be considered abusive, inflammatory, denigrating, or disrespectful to any groups, individuals or institutions.

Comic Writing Workshop (Middle School)

Writing a comic can be a great way to express your creativity and imagination. We'll explore the basics of writing comics like how to develop characters, create story arcs, and find inspiration for your comic art. We'll also discuss tips on drawing techniques that will help you make your comic come alive!

We want to see your talent! We will choose one winner from each of four age groups: Preschool, Elementary, Middle School, and High School, to be printed and distributed throughout our Summer Reading Program. To submit your bookmark, include with the artist’s name, grade, and contact phone number and either drop off at the front desk during opening hours or email you submission to langleyafblibrary@gmail.com. Bookmarks will be 2”x6” and a template is available either at front desk or online.
